Tuesday
(Post by TR)
Just thought I'd bump some Tuesday goodness with this photo. We've got a great post coming down the pipe soon of our recent wedding at the Phipps Mansion in Denver, which was absolutely gorgeous. Stay tuned for that, but for now....here's a mind-boggler photo ;)
It's weird. And I really like it.
I took it on our way back from Steamboat this past weekend. One of my favorite things to do is explore abandoned houses, and this one was pretty darn sweet. Maybe I'll talk more about abandoned houses in the off-season and post some more photos - I'm slowly working on a lil pitcha book of how the old West is dying, depicted through my lens. I guess you could stay tuned for that. Or, you could just forget about it and then when I post something in the fall you'll see it and be like 'oh yeah, I was supposed to stay tuned for this or something.'
OK, sorry, it's late and I'm starting to be let's-come-up-with-lame-scenarios-man. Sorry about that. Enjoy the spooktastic photo, and goodnight internet.
Oh, PS, it's not photoshopped. First person to comment and guess a)how I took it (ie what technique to get the effect), and b)why the ceiling and wall is green-tinted gets a dollar. Or a Starbucks gift card. Or the ability to ask me to do anything at all for up to 5 seconds. Your choice. GO!

You fed your camera some crazy pills? hehe...Chris and I are both stumped. Not that I would have the first clue in how you did this. Chris is very curious though! Can I still get $1 for playing the game? =)
I think you picked a slower shutter speed (maybe 1/30) and then rotated the camera while keeping the lens centered on the door. this one time when I was helping shoot a wedding, the photographer tried to show me how to do it. =)
green is because I'm about to get a dollar!? you can make the check payable to Bryon, thanks!
Bryon, young grasshopper (haha), I owe you 50 cents for a half right answer, and Ashley, I owe you fifty cents for that talk about the crazy pills. I laughed.
The green tint is from the reflection of the grass outside the house. :)
Did you do a zoom blur? You zoomed out while taking the pic? It's Heather from Ashley's wedding. I hope you guys are great. I have really enjoyed looking at your images. They are so beautiful. I would love to pick your brains sometime.
or is it a filter? I know you took one at Ashley's wedding where she and Chris were dancing, but the lights were spiraling almost.
BTW, I'm Heather the one that was videotaping, haha.
Hey Heather! Great to hear from you (and thanks for the comments)! For the above shot I rotated the camera clockwise on the plane parallel with the back of the camera while doing my best to keep the lens in the exact same spot, along the axis running through the center of the lens. Imagine that axis as a line connecting the center of the lens to the center of the image, in this case, the door. Kind of hard to explain, but that was it. I used a longer shutter speed, like 1/15th and was wide open at 2.8 on the aperture. It took me like 20 tries to get the shot looking right, but I love how it came out!
With the zoom blurs you'll get lines that go from the center of the image out with the center in focus, as opposed to the spinning effect above (or like in Ashley's dance photo you're talking about).
Pick my brain anytime! Shoot an email, call, twitter, facebook, whatev! Have a great rest of your week,
