Sam

Bloggies, good afternoon! Hope you're enjoying the weekend...

Let me just say at the outset, Laura and I are super excited to publish these photos today.

This, below, is Sam. Laura and I had a blast 'gettin' with it' and shooting photos of Sam a few weekends ago in downtown Denver. We wanted to get a little edgy and go for something different with this set, producing work of the quality and style that might be published in a magazine or seen up on a billboard in New York or LA.

Needless to say, Sam's got the look, and combining his awesome taste in fashion, the right urban backdrops, and a little bit of Lauravis-style (yes, I just made that up, and btw it's better than Traura) gave us exactly what we were going for, and we're excited to unveil these photos. Sam's preparing to graduate and head onward and eastward to college, and, from all of us at Fuse Photographic (all two of us!), best wishes in your journey forward, Sam!!

Enjoy the photos!

Engagements 2009

Oh January. January Twenty-Ten. We all know, every year, that this tends to be a time of looking ahead, dreaming, setting goals, resolving to change and learn and grow, starting fresh, restoring hope, finding new energy and motivation, and charging forward. I think I am a strange combination of an idealist and a realist, an optimist and a pessimist. Sometimes I struggle this time of year, because I’ll get all caught up in dreaming and planning and hoping…then my realism sets in and clotheslines me, knocks me down, overwhelms me. Then I usually laugh at my predictability, get back up and take baby steps, keep dreaming.

We have big dreams for Fuse Photographic. We want to improve our craft, stretch our creative limits, find new ways to bless our clients and better their experience, develop our unique brand.

We also want to learn from our past, acknowledge our growth, be proud of our journey. We love our clients and are really thankful to have been a part of their lives. Here’s our blast from the not-so-distant past: engagement sessions 2009!

And, Happy New Year!!

Well bloggies, here we are! It's 2010! Happy New Year!!!

We've been on blog-hiatus, spending valuable time with our fams, traveling to Ohio, and enjoying the holidays and the season of our 3rd anniversary. For those of you who don't know, Laura and I were married on December 29th, 2006, right smack in the middle of the 2006 blizzardry that enveloped Colorado. People were stuck in the airport for days, shut in the house, cars were abandoned in snow drifts all over the sides of the roads, and (somehow!) Laura and I got married in the middle of it all. And it was magic. We were even featured in the paper (apparently it was entertaining to read about couples who somehow pulled off a wedding in the midst of such conditions!).

Many of our [amazing] couples have asked us about when things go wrong at weddings, and what we've done to mitigate problems or otherwise make things go as smoothly as possible. Well, we definitely have experience in that field! For us, on our wedding day nothing worked quite like we had planned, but we made everything work, and we were still married, and it was still magic. So, to all you future married-folk, don't sweat the small stuff. While the importance of the day you're married is undeniable, and is most certainly worthy of all the plans, expense, and effort, what happens after the wedding day counts more than on wedding day.

On a personal note, it's cold outside, and snowy. Before Laura and I were married I'd never really had much preference for winter, but now every time this season begins to roll around, there's something in me that is enlivened, awakened, and I look forward to the snow falling. It reminds me of when Laura and I chose to bind our two hearts together in love, and I'm thankful that somewhere deep in the cobwebs of my mind, there is now an intrinsic tie between snow falling and the season when Laura and I were married. I love it. I love my wife. There is nothing better than being married

to her.

Alex & Michelle

Hey y'all! Happy Wednesday to you. We shot Alex and Michelle's engagement session bright and early a few weekends ago. We decided to shoot first at the Red Rocks in Boulder--not the amphitheatre, just some really cool rock formations just outside of Boulder in the mountains. It was a great place to shoot, and just a perfect morning--surprisingly warm with some amazing, soft light. Michelle and Alex are so adorable together and were up for anything; like we've said before...we have the most amazing clients!! We felt like they trusted us with our judgment (even when we had them climbing to the top of the rocks!) and it was awesome.

After mini-Red Rocks, we then skipped over to Holiday Neighborhood for the second half of the sesh. You may not know this, but Michelle is a supergenius. She is getting her PhD at CU in bug science! i.e. Entomology. (I had to look up the spelling.) She studies ants and I personally think that that is quite fascinating. How awesome to discover such a niche interest. Alex is a general contractor, so he builds things, and builds them well, I'm sure of it!

Well, have a looksie, hope you enjoy! Michelle and Alex--can't wait for your Estes Park wedding at Mary's Lake Lodge in August!

Brian & Michelle

From the time we first met these two, I knew Brian and Michelle's wedding would be entertaining. I may or may not have mentioned it before, but I happen to be a proud Ohio State Buckeye alum, and it just so happens that Brian himself hails from Columbus and a family full of Buckeye fans. If you know anything about Ohio State football, you know the feelings toward the whole state of Michigan tend to be of the not-so-kind variety. Michelle happens to be from....you guessed it. Michigan. With a family full of Wolverine fans. So I knew there would be some good-natured rivalry fun taking place. To add to the drama, OSU just happened to be playing (and winning) the game that sent them to the Rose Bowl this year. We even got to stop by a sports bar to see the winning overtime play. Ok, this is about a wedding...onward.

The day was chilly and rainy/snowy, which just made their Holy Ghost church ceremony even more cozy. It was beautiful, we love that church. After, we piled into the limo with the whole bridal party and headed over to the Denver Art Museum for some photos. The light was really amazing, at twilight with snow. It was so blue and interesting. Side note: the folks at the museum were so incredibly accommodating for us. We appreciated it a super lot.

The reception at the ballroom on the 37th floor of the Grand Hyatt provided panoramic views of the falling snow and the Denver city lights...so romantic! Brian and Michelle were surrounded by tons of family and friends that traveled cross country to celebrate with them. They are obviously so loved! We had such a great time documenting this fabulous wedding. Stay tuned for their "day-after" photos. Thanks Brian and Michelle!

P.S. Quick shout-out to the amazing, incredible David and Heather...past clients through whom we met Brian and Michelle! We love you guys and loved seeing you at the wedding! =)

Ashley & Chris

Hello from bitter-freezing-cold-and-snowy Colorado! A quick post of some of our completely awesome and utterly adorable friends, Chris and Ashley! Check out Ashley on her blog, you will be delightfully entertained and informed by all her creative food, photography, fitness, and life blogging skills. (You might see me on there once and a while too, as an added bonus of course.) Chris and Ashley recently moved here from Charlotte with their two doggies, Dakota and Kenna. The dogs are so so so funny! They are sorta like cartoons...goofy and happy...and so sweet!

Fun fact: Travis shot Chris and Ashley's wedding on June 21, 2008! (I was in it the wedding, so I didn't help very much). Second fun fact: Chris and Ashley were one of our very first "practice couples" way back in the day! They modeled for us when we all lived in Columbus, Ohio. That was probably in 2005 or so. Now, how fun is it that we all now live in Colorado together!?! Pretty stinking fun, actually! I love these two! Ok, enjoy some snowy photo fun now:

Brad & Kelsey

Ok, I honestly don't know where to begin here. I can't express how excited I was when Brad and Kelsey asked us to not only shoot their wedding next May, but to fly down to Oklahoma and shoot their engagement session a few weeks ago.

Brad is a dear friend of mine from way back in high school, and we have so many good memories together I can hardly begin to count them. There are a select number of people that, if I had my way, I would force them to move onto our street so we could all just live happily ever after, and Brad is one of those people. You just can't help but smile around him. He's genuine - the kind of person that always makes you feel right at home, he has a huge heart for others, and, in general, is one of those all-around amazing men. Oh, and if you're lucky you might get to hear him belt out some wicked awesome Michael Jackson (please, someone ask for that at the wedding! ...I'm lookin' at the Man in the Mirror...!'). Anyway, Brad is a good man, and I'm so happy that he found such a wonderful woman as Kelsey.

She's also, obviously, got permission to move onto our block ;), and I'm excited to see their relationship grow and to get to know Kelsey better as it does.

Laura and I had a great time getting to hang out with B&K - we trekked around Bricktown and downtown OKC, drove to Brad's Grandma's farm and took advantage of the warm, golden sunset light and an old red barn, and in general just had a blast laughing, shooting photos, and listening to some MJ in the process.

Brad & Kelsey, enjoy the photos, and we're so excited to come down and see you two again in the Spring!!

Ryan & Samantha

We love these photos almost as much as we adore Ryan and Sam. We love the emotion and color and dynamic quality of the images, and, come to think of it...those things seem to describe these two delightful people quite accurately. They are so refreshing and genuine and we've already insisted that they be our friends!

Ryan is a designer, so we thought that shooting them in and around Denver's contemporary art museum would be fitting. Samantha has amazing taste and they both fit so well into the clean lines, textures, and colors of the museum. After, we took a stroll around the surrounding downtown Denver area for some more engagement photos. We weren't able to incorporate any wire-bead decor into the photos for Sam, but we did score some blonde wood backdrops for Ryan. =)

We can't wait for their Mile High Station wedding in February...it's coming quickly! Thanks Ryan and Sam!

Greg & Elizabeth

Guess what blogheads? Our blog is now ONE year old! Happy Birthday Bloggie. (Ok, I missed it by a day or two: our first post was Brooke and Nolan's wedding last November 16th) Our good ole blogspot has been nice and faithful and all, but its also kinda quirky and clunky so we are ready for an update! Look for some changes sometime this winter! Now, onto our beautiful couple...

Greg and Elizabeth just cannot contain their joy over being engaged and in love! Giddy, overflowing, uncontained, pure exuberance. They have carried on a long-distance relationship for a while and only recently has Elizabeth and her sky-high dancer legs relocated to Boulder to be near Greg. We adore these two and the way they wear their hearts on their sleeves. We were totally blessed to photograph such happiness. Can't wait for their Hotel Monaco wedding in April!

We started in downtown Boulder near the Pearl Street mall, and ended up in this rad, although random, vintage train yard that we discovered in east Boulder. Check it!

Ben & Lisa

Lisa and Ben were so calm, happy, so ready for this day. They were surrounded by loving friends and family and everything was just...right. Our favorite parts of the day:

-Lisa's hot pink tights
- seven bridesmaids, two flowergirls and Lisa's mom in a tiny room helping Lisa into her dress
-Lisa and Ben seeing each other before the ceremony and their adorable reactions to each other
-Lisa airing out her dress with a giant fan (Marilyn Monroe-style)
-cousin AnnMarie and her awesome git-er-done people-herding and photo-organizing skills (especially for the 60+ person group photo!)
-Lisa's Britney dance routine
-crazy quantities of celebration and gettin' down on the dance floor
-the sweet, sweet genuine love between Lisa and Ben.

Those are just a few of the fun tidbits from the day. We are also extremely jealous of the FIJI honeymoon these two planned for themselves! Thank you so much, Lisa and Ben! Hope you had a fabulous trip and we hope you enjoy your photos!

Trevor & Brooke

Wait for it...wait for it....ok...the UNVEILING!!! Trevor and Brooke have been looking forward to this post just a bit...ok, Trevor is "obsessed" according to Brooke and can't handle the anticipation! Trevor looked mighty handsome and quite GQ with his lovely lady on his arm. And Brooke, you are gorgeous! We laughed this entire session and loved the interplay of their personalities.

Brooke and Trevor's "things" are wine and 14ers (and candy), and so they wanted them incorporated into their photos. We love that and think that picking out meaningful locations make engagement photos just that much more special. Brooke is a photography-dabbler slash soon-to-be medical student with great taste, and Trevor, if I remember correctly is some kind of math genius with a rad sense of humor. Quite the studly couple!

We are mucho excited about their June 2010 wedding at the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Magnolia Hotel! Thanks Trevor and Brooke!

Tom & Marjorie

We are getting absolutely dumped on here in Colorado. I think we got close to 18 inches of snow today...and it is still coming, hard! It's beautiful, sticking to everything--reminds us of our wedding day almost three years ago. The timing is questionable, though. =) Sledding, anyone?

When we left Boulder a couple weekends ago to head up to Beaver Creek for Marjorie and Tom's wedding, it was also snowing, grey, and cold. We thought it would get worse as we headed west, but, happily, it only got better. Up in the mountains, the day was crisp, blue-skied and sunny.

Marjorie and Tom live in Texas, but chose to wed in the beautiful Rocky Mountains--great choice, if you ask me! Marjorie has fabulous taste and rocked her bronze Christian Louboutin shoes and stunning Oscar de la Renta dress beautifully. The ceremony was intimate and sweet in the quaint Beaver Creek Chapel, and the dinner reception at the Splendido at the Chateau was relaxed, cozy, and elegant.

We stayed at the Vail Cascade Resort that night so the weekend turned into a fun little getaway for us, too! We walked around downtown, ate out, sat in the hot tub, and watched TV in bed! Fun time with my hubs...so fun to get to "work" together. =)

We were blessed to be part of your day, Marjorie and Tom! Congratulations and we hope you enjoy the photos.

Greg & Julia

Julia and Greg did such a fantastic job planning their wedding. Every classy detail was thoughtfully considered, and the whole day was relaxing, fun, joyful and full of anticipation and excitement--not stressful or rushed at all. I started out with the girls at Julia's parents' house, and Travis met up with Greg and the guys in the Presidential Suite at the Brown Palace Hotel (absolutely stunning, we highly recommend having a stay). After being shuttled in a 1930s Rolls Royce Limo to Civic Center Park, we had plenty of time to catch some fun bridal party, bride and groom, and family portraits. We especially loved how organized Julia was with all of the transportation and logistics, and love that she thought to bring the families to the park as well. Family formals can be great in a church, but there is just something soooo loovvvely about that natural light!

The ceremony was at Holy Ghost Church, and the sanctuary is such a warm and sacred space, it was incredible. The reception at the Brown Palace was sooo elegant and classy...orchids as far as the eye could see! Our eyes just slurped up all the beauty that day, for real. It was perfect. Even though it was a long day, we felt so good afterward. Thanks for everything Julia and Greg! Congratulations and we hope you enjoy!
